Have I disappeared for a few days? My resolution to blog every day from September through the end of November is obviously shot. And I don’t really mind. I’m glad to blog every day when I have the inspiration (and, let’s face it, I have the inspiration a lot), and I think that goal was to encourage me to do so. Right now though, I keep opening WordPress and then staring at the “Write Post” button and think to myself, “What do I say?”

Because I don’t have much right now. I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting since Saturday, and not a lot of it is positive. I miss my old way of life. I miss Pepper and Sugar. I miss Sara. I miss Anja. I miss Sunday morning pancakes with Acoustic Sunrise on the radio. I miss Men in Black and Independence Day, Star Trek: The Next Generation and The First Wives’ Club. I miss talking about whatever I want and not being worried about being judged by what I say. I miss family. And I miss the feeling of being relaxed in their presence.

I don’t really make friends easily, so I planned on being 1500 miles from home, so that I’d have the challenge. I don’t regret that decision. But I do wish I were more courageous here in getting to know new people. Well, still learning the ropes I guess.

How about something more interesting? Here’s what I woke up to this morning:

window-condensation

Definitely better than a frozen window, but this time the window was COMPLETELY shut. I hope it’s just got all that condensation because of the light sweater drying underneath it. If it’s like that the day after tomorrow still in the morning I’ll be worried.

I also took some time this morning to decide whether or not I liked Shibui Sock on 2.75mm or 2.5mm needles.

mysterysock-comparison

Yeah, the jury’s still out and the next clue is already up. I think I’ll wind the second skein into a ball and then do that one on the 2.5mm needles (starting over AGAIN), and continue down the leg on both until I am sure which one I like better.

Not quite so interesting? How about my recent mail?

mail call!

The Vogue Knitting looks like my mom bought it off a newsstand somewhere. LOVE it. I thought I liked Interweave Knits, but Vogue Knitting is really cool, too. I had this picture of it being more about Fashion, which I totally don’t get. But I like its features so much more than Interweave’s. There is definitely more going on there. And there are some neat sweaters and things that I’d like to knit. So, all in all, not as bad as I thought.

And my election info! So exciting. So scary.

Oh, and a KnitPicks catalogue. That one is also SUPER exciting. I could do without WEBS and Patternworks catalogues, but KnitPicks catalogues are really impressive. Sure, they have their yarn, but that’s all in the back. Leading up to it are patterns: some exclusive to KnitPicks, some not. All done in their yarns. For example, look at this Venezia:

BEAUTIFUL, no? Most of the Venezia iterations I’ve seen are done in the same colors as the original. But this one — wow. I need to learn how to do something like that. I need to knit more often.

Anyway, this catalogue is FULL of colourwork, and as I confessed to Glenna recently, I want someday to stop being fearful of large colourwork projects. (Go confess your own ‘ultimate dream knit’!) (Also, why do I write “color” and “colourwork”? “Catalogue” instead of “catalog”? I am so confusing.)

Have some more pictures.

Oh, you got the new Vogue? Lucky! We haven’t gotten it in at the shop yet. I’m going to check on Friday.

We, too, got the KnitPicks. *drool* I love colorwork. I know to non-knitters it sounds wierd, but some of that colorwork is heart-achingly beautiful.

I miss having people that I can just drive over to their house for a while, and then drive home, all in one afternoon. I miss you, too!

I like “A” — the colors are warm and it looks better on the model.
