“Some sewing”, indeed

Grumble, grumble. That weekend of nice 70s weather was merely a reprieve. I had hoped it would be longer than a few days. Today we’re back up to 80s weather, probably up to 87˚F outside. 84 inside the house. Goody. But since it’s cooled off outside at least, I’m sitting in the backyard with my laptop and loving the fact that we have wireless Internet. I’m thinking of having some iced tea, which Em and I agree is a great summertime drink.

Hey! I figured out how to add my current Google subscriptions as a blogroll. Go me.

So, uh, that small amount of sewing I mention in the subtitle? Here it is.

The Pirate Shirt

My friend Sara said she was going to drag me to the NorCal Pirate Festival, and she had a pattern for a pirate top for us to sew for it. While we’ve both been knitting for about three years, neither of us have sewn much. In fact, the last time I really tried sewing was probably eight years ago. So it was really hard for me to wrap my head around it: I kept thinking of knitting circularly rather than sewing up. Spirals rather than pieces of fabric. And of course, we decide to jump right in to princess seams and all that jazz. Much as sewing our own tops for the pirate festival was pretty awesome, I am ready to sew something simple next—curtains, in fact, and then perhaps a simpler top or skirt. I guess I’m resigned to the fact that I’ve got the sewing bug…

Bwahahaha! 87?! Ha! Yesterday it was 102 here. We have to keep the blinds shut all the time or else our electric bill will go out the roof. :P

I love that shirt. Wanna make me one? :P
