I now know why I knit so furiously in the summer

Somehow it got to be October recently; really, well into October. That means it’s SOCKTOBERFEST!

Huge socks

Actually, around here it’s pretty much always Socktoberfest, when I’m knitting. I’ve been working on those socks for AGES. I feel so badly—I promised these socks ages ago, but they’re taking me forever. Soon! Soon! They’ll be finished and I can go on to something a little more quick and satisfying.

I’ve been planning on knitting Ishbel, which would be my first shawl and first lace accessory, out of this bright lime green yarn that I bought in the designer’s LYS in Edinburgh:

Bright green for Ishbel

That’s not very Socktoberfest though, is it? My wrists, I thought they needed a break from small needles. Well, until I started seeing pictures of Through the Loops’ current Mystery Sock, like the one at the end of this post. I’m drooling over here. And planning when to bike over to the local yarn store to pick up some orange yarn for the socks. (Uh, so much for not trying to duplicate last year’s. Did I never write a FO post for that one?)

My anguish toward knitting has started to lift with the onset of real fall weather. Highs in the 50s. Brisk chill in the air. Leaves scattered on the ground. Great weather for a new sweater and wool socks, right? The Toast I knit this year and never blogged about are getting lots of use under my denim jacket. While I don’t want to pull out my winter clothes yet—that’s such a scary thought—it would feel much cosier with more wool clothes, right? :)

I’ve even begun endlessly reading knitblogs and checking out Ravelry again. I guess that’s autumn’s doing.
