There are a few things I know I am not. One is an audial learner. I spent the last three days in an underground lecture hall trying to figure out what the point three different scholars were trying to make in the question Whither Development?. As a non-audial learner who can’t even listen to audiobooks and needs a good amount of sunshine to stay in good spirits, this didn’t bode well for me and I got cranky pretty quick. The second thing I’m not really is polygamous with knitting projects. I’ve tried it and it just didn’t work out for me. I’m more “bigamous”, as I call it. I like to have a sock on the needles to keep in my purse and a larger project “at home”, in this case my sweater.
Another thing I know I am not is someone with a tendency towards Second Sock Syndrome or Startitis. These knitter knitterly syndromes in all of three years I have managed to avoid, leading me to think I’m immune.
Huh. Would you look at that.
After whining the other day that I wanted to take part in the Mystery Sock, I decided to just let go the fear of purchasing power. To celebrate being DONE!!! with 24/3 lectures I got on my bike and rode over to the LYS in search of semi-solid sock yarn. (Huh, this would be an interesting addition to BAT/KAT, if it were still going.) (Also, in terms of money, worse idea than going out for ice cream. In terms of health, probably about the same, as I nearly suffered an asthma attack getting there, throwing me back a day at least for feeling well.) What I found did not disappoint.
It’s ORANGE! You know, I’ve been having a lot of qualms about Fall falling. It’s too COLD. And it’s just going to get colder. But there are two things that re-raise my spirits: last week’s local food day in the cafeteria, wherein we ate delicious food such as potatoes, chicken, and late-season greens, and local APPLE CRISP. Hello, best thing about autumn. Period. The second thing that is re-raising my spirits is this: OCTOBER = HALLOWEEN. Orange. Pumpkins. ORANGE. I feel like I am getting drunk off the orange.
So of course my mystery sock (of which I’ll be doing the cablework version, because I love cables), had to be orange. And Shibui Sock had the perfect pumpkin-y color. Love. ♥
What else did I start, even before the Mystery Sock?
The Good Luck Cowl. What a nice name.
I’m spending the afternoon knitting. Must finish clue#1 of the mystery sock today, as I can’t see myself with tons of knitting time again before Wednesday (I don’t really have knitting time now. I just don’t want to write papers quite yet). Maybe I’ll be able to look at Chunky Green sometime in the near future again. Well, hopefully. I STILL want a new sweater, and I still like knitting it. It just kinda hurts to have to rip it again. And I just can’t do the sleeves first. I have neuroses like that.
Happy Saturday everyone!

Love that yarn your using – and I cannot say I’m immune to startitis – another idea hit me today – and thus, I’ve cast on yet again…..
I don’t understand that book so I will have to make a trip to the library for a Knitting for Dummies book. But I really want to try to do a nordic vest. I don’t know why I just like the way it looks in the pic.
I love that Good Luck Cowl! thank you so much for the link – I’ve already printed a copy of the pattern and subscribed to the feed from that site. I’m a bigamous knitter too. When I do get too many things on the go it makes me feel worse rather than better. I find blogging tempts me to cast on for things before I would otherwise do so because of the pressure to come up with something to post but I’m being careful not to succumb – so far so good.
i’ve only ever finished knitting one thing, a scarf when i was teaching myself to knit. i started something else but got busy so now i just have a whole bunch of things i want to try knit but haven’t even started…. :)
