Big News

(Is this a knitting blog? I guess only if knitting AND picture taking happens, and the picture taking… yeah. Not really happening.)

I figured that since this “big news” is happening in a month, it’s now time to give everyone fair warning (and yes, some readers know this already, some don’t).

I am going on a Big Adventure next year, from 2 January to 2 July, and while I’m gone on this Big Adventure I probably won’t be blogging here much, though I have told some family and friends that I might make a “travel blog”. It might seem weird to write a blog in English while I’m on this adventure though, so I’m not sure yet. I do know many people want to see pictures. I’ll work on it.

Have I beat around the bush enough yet for you? ;) All right, here’s it straight. I’m studying abroad next semester, spending two months in Berlin and four months at the University of Vienna. This study abroad program is required by my German Studies major, so three of the four classes I’ll be taking are already chosen for me, but I am interested in taking an art history course. It’s going to be a great experience, and I absolutely cannot wait. I’m going to miss a lot of people a lot, though, and I’m sure I’ll check in and write a blog entry as often as I can, but I am fairly certain it won’t be too often. I’m planning on taking advantage of the excitement of being there and seeing everything.

I probably also won’t knit much, although I’ve been toying with the idea of trying my first lace shawl while I’m there. It will probably take me all 6 months and therefore I’ll only need 4oz. of yarn plus one set of needles for that, so I’ll be packing light with that. I’m still thinking about that.

Now that that’s out in the open, I have to admit that I’ve been reading the new Interweave Knits as my bedtime reading. I really like a few of the sweaters (and the hooded scarf!). Will have to write them all down sometime later. Here’s what I’ve really been doing:

revising

Yes, I spent today revising a paper, so much so that I am afraid the current state of the paper is really bad. Wish I’d given myself even more time to revise, but the fact that I’m revising at all is pretty amazing. I get the feeling not many people revise papers while in college (or at least in this one). I’m very proud of myself for starting this two weeks ago instead of tonight. Tonight I can sleep and try and head off this cold I think I feel coming on, because I do have a few hours tomorrow that I can edit this paper, so that’s not necessary tonight.

I really want an A on this paper. It would make me feel so much better about school.

Right — back to the reality of schoolwork. I think posting is starting to be sporadic now rather than in January; just way too much to do before then!
