PICARD: Mr. Worf, have you been in a fight?

WORF: It is a gorch, sir.

PICARD (alarmed): A gorch?

DATA (quietly, in Picard’s ear): A pimple, sir.

PICARD (awkwardly): Oh… well, it’s hardly noticeable.

Star Trek: Insurrection

I’ve dealt with acne over half my life, and it stinks. Right now I feel exactly like Worf, even down to the placement on my face. I haven’t changed much in my skin care routine, but I think this time around has something to do with the change in weather from the Midwest to the West Coast. It’s hot around here, and I’m sweaty, and therefore breaking out. What fun times. Now I am yet again frantically trying to figure out what I can do to clear up my face, which I haven’t had to do in months.

Though I really do have more important things to do right now than deal with a stinging face.

My mom finally made it out of the hospital yesterday. The doctor told us that the surgery went well, but, I am discovering, and she supposedly discovered before this, my mom recovers terribly from anaesthesia. (As an aside, I have no idea why I spell some words the British way. I am not a particular Anglophile…) She had to stay in the hospital a couple of extra days for that, so I spent a lot of time last week there. Now I finally have some time between caring for her to check email, blogs, clean, figure out what I want to bring back (besides a lot ;)).

I mostly finished a sock while I was here, and I keep wishing I had nice green yarn to knit Muir for my mom. The Bay Area is important to her, and I want to be able to do something besides send my positive thoughts. But I realized I should pick up yarn for that when I’m home, in a state without prohibitive sales tax. Just another thing to add to my prohibitive credit card bill. I think this is one of those things that counts as an emergency, but if anyone knows of anyone looking to hire a recent grad, I’m here for you! (wink nudge)

I’m here with my family until tomorrow evening, then I am back home—which really feels like home now, and I didn’t really expect that to happen—for a week to unpack, possibly celebrate with an apartment-warming party, and start up my job search before vacationing in the Capitol of the nation with my dad and brother. Then I have to hunt for a job, hardcore.

We’ll see what happens as it gets there. I’ll update again when I’m back home.

Huge changes! Glad to hear that you’re getting to spend some time with your mum. I always find it strange going “home” when you already have a “home” somewhere else… my skin usually gets triggered by differences in water in different places. Wierd perhaps but it’s all that I can work out. Incredibly annoying but it usually settles down after a week or so.

Oh yes, I have a pickle of a time recovering from general too. Best wishes to your mom.

Have you ever heard of the EVOO method? I use it (well, almond oil) and dude, my skin LOVES it.

I’ve heard of it, but I’ve always thought it might be too much of a mess. (I think of myself as a bit of a klutz.) But I’ve heard so many people say they like it! Maybe I should try it sometime.

Man, screw acne. Also I’m so glad your mom recovered from surgery!
